And the Originals are taking over!

The CW is working on a Vampire Diaries spinoff series that would revolve around Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and the series' fan-favorite Original vampire family, a rep for the network confirms to E! News. The April 25 episode of the CW hit series will serve as a backdoor pilot for the potential series, which will be written by TVD cocreator and executive producer Julie Plec.

Are you squealing yet? Well, it's about to get even better!

Along with Morgan, Vampire Diaries guest star and Secret Circle breakout star Phoebe Tonkin—who was introduced this season as the werewolf Hayley—will also be heavily featured in the prospective pilot.

The Originals would center on the Original family of vampires (which includes characters such as Daniel Gillies' Elijah and Claire Holt's Rebekah) as Klaus returns to the French Quarter of New Orleans, which happens to be a supernatural melting pot that he helped build centuries ago. There, he is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel.

Should the pilot be picked up to series by the CW, Plec would serve as showrunner. The Vampire Diaries' cocreator and executive producer Kevin Williamson, whose new show The Following debuts on Fox on Jan. 21, has no involvement on The Originals.
