Diane Lane to Play Hillary Clinton in NBC Miniseries

The network also announced that it will remake Rosemary's Baby and Stephen King's The Tommyknockers

Talk about big shoes to fill!

NBC announced that it will air a four-hour miniseries titled Hillary about Hillary Clinton starring Diane Lane as the former secretary of state at the 2013 Summer Press Tour on Saturday. While no airdate has been set as the project is currently in the early stages, NBC's president Bob Greenblatt said the miniseries would likely air before Clinton formally declares herself as a presidential candidate in 2016.

"President Clinton, we haven't cast yet," Greenblatt spilled. "We literally just closed the deals and haven't written the script. All that will be determined." Dream cast away, people!

Written by Oscar nominee Courtney Hunt, Hillary will recount Clinton's life as "a wife, mother, politician and cabinet member from 1998 to the present," NBC said in a press release. "The script will begin with Clinton living in the White House as her husband is serving the second of his two terms as president. In the years following, she would eventually become a United States senator, run for president and, ultimately, serve the country as secretary of state."

NBC isn't alone in working on a project focusing on Clinton: A biopic set during her days working on the Richard Nixon impeachment hearings is currently in the works, which stars such as Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and Amanda Seyfried reportedly in the running for the role. 

Jessica Chastain denied rumors that she was in talks to play Clinton on the silver screen, telling E! News, "They just say these are the people we're considering asking. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean any of us have read the script, any of us have heard of the project."

In addition to Hillary, NBC also announced the pickup of three other miniseries: The network will tackle a remake of Stephen King's The Tommyknockers, with Greenblatt giving credit to CBS because "of what happened with Under the Dome." Also set to be remade by the network is the classic horror film Rosemary's Baby.

And following the success of The Bible and plans for a sequel, A.D.: Beyond the Bible, to air on NBC, Mark Burnett will also be working on another limited miniseries for the network titled Plymouth, which will tell "the story of the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock," Greenblatt explained.
