Sometimes the MTV Movie Awards are just like the Oscars, like this year when movies like American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street find themselves leading the pack with eight nominations apiece, and major stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprioJessica Chastain and Brad Pitt are in the running to be honored.

And at other times...

Chastain and Pitt are duking it out for buckets of popcorn in a category called Best Scared-as-S--t Performance.

The nominations are in for the blockbuster-friendly 2014 MTV Movie Awards, to be hosted by Conan O'Brien on April 13 at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre, and the aforementioned films are both in the running for Movie of the Year, along with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, 12 Years a Slave and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

JLaw and Leo lead all individual celebs with four nominations apiece, with Lawrence's coming for Best Female Performance and Best Fight for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire; Best Kiss, an honor she shares with American Hustle costar Amy Adams; and Best Musical Performance, also in Hustle, for when her beleaguered housewife character lets loose to "Live and Let Die."

Adams is also up for Best Female Performance, as is Jennifer Aniston in stripper-with-a-heart-of-gold mode in We're the MillersSandra Bullock for Gravity and Lupita Nyong'o for 12 Years a Slave (none of that Best Supporting Actor and Actress nonsense here).

Paramount Pictures/Sony Pictures/Fox Searchlight

DiCaprio, meanwhile, squares off against Bradley Cooper in American HustleChiwetel Ejiofor in 12 YearsJosh Hutcherson in Catching Fire and Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club for Best Male Performance. (Don't fret, they didn't forget about Jared Leto: he's up for Best Onscreen Duo with McConaughey and Best On-Screen Transformation.)

See? Very Oscaresque this year!

Then, of course, comes the love for the films that tend to get overlooked come awards season, such as Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (a sure winner for Best Fight for its massive star-studded brawl, right?) , This Is the End, Man of Steel, Oz the Great and Powerful, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (which, then again, is an Academy Award-nominated film) and others that may not have impressed critics as much as they impressed some of those who will be offering up their votes online.

Speaking of which, voting starts today and is open till April 12.

And while McConaughey and Leto might be a sure bet for Best On-Screen Duo any other year, this time they'll be up against the surely unbeatable pair that is Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker in Fast & Furious 6.

And perhaps the Motliest of Crews Award goes to the nominees for Best Cameo: Kanye West, Robert De Niro, Joan Rivers, Rihanna, and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
