Prepare yourselves for some not-so-great news, Teen Wolf fans.

MTV's hit supernatural show is losing a series regular next season, and we're not talking about a newer character. Nope, it's actually one of the stars who has been around since the very first episode of season one.

Tyler Hoechlin will not return as a series regular in season five, E! News has confirmed.

Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis revealed the shocking casting shake-up when he spoke to Buzzfeed about the upcoming season, explaining that it was a creative decision from both him and Hoechlin.

"Tyler Hoechlin decided he wanted more time to pursue movies," Davis says. "We talked and creatively agreed that maybe this was a good season to refocus on the teens of Teen Wolf, and while he won't be a series regular anymore, I can say that you probably won't have seen the last of Derek Hale. We love him and miss him."

So, it's not all bad news! While Hoechlin won't be on the show as much as he used to, he'll still show up...and hopefully when he does, he'll share the screen with Stiles (Dylan O'Brien). Hey, we can dream, can't we?!

Derek Hale has been around since the very beginning of Teen Wolf, helping Scott (Tyler Posey) come to terms with his new life as a werewolf, and he almost died in the season four finale while battling a berserker, before being resurrected as a true wolf.

Teen Wolf season five premieres this summer on MTV.
