Anybody watching last Sunday's Oscars could see Rose Byrne had a smashing good time.
And now the Damages beauty has revealed to E! News exclusively for the first time the audience member who shouted "Scorsese!" when they were presenting the award for best documentary short—prompting her and her Bridesmaid costar Melissa McCarthy to break out their Martin Scorsese drinking game in front of millions of viewers.
And the little helper was…
The Help director Tate Taylor!
At least that's Byrne's primary suspect. As she told us yesterday the set of her Emmy-winning TV drama, "I believe it was Tate—who directed The Help, who's very good friends with Melissa McCarthy, and he screamed it out. So that got us started."
When asked if she was downing real vodka, the 32-year-old thesp came clean.
"Yes, it was, it was. It was real vodka. Yup!" Byrne said.
As for McCarthy, Rose reveals her partner in crime also tossed back genuine hard liquor.
"I believe she had bourbon. The gag went down well. I didn't know what was going to happen but the audience was great and I think Martin Scorsese made like a funny face and so we sold it," the Aussie actress said with a laugh. "When you're with Melissa McCarthy, you're kind of in safe hands for anything, anything comedic."
She got that right.
Byrne reprises her role as attorney Ellen Parsons, protégé to Glenn Close's ruthless lawyer Patty Hewes, when Damages' fifth season kicks off in July on DirecTV.
