First there was Lucy and Ethel. Then came Laverne and Shirley.

Now it's time for Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy!

The two costar in the upcoming cop comedy The Heat, directed by McCarthy's Bridesmaids director Paul Feig.

In the just-released first trailer for the movie (due in theaters in April 5), we learn that Bullock plays an FBI agent who finds herself sent to Boston to work on a case with a local crass-talking street detective, played by McCarthy.

The good times sure do roll. The two are shown dodging and firing bullets, conducting crazyass shakedowns (oops, did they really drop that guy from a fire escape?) and engaging in some off-duty drunk dancing.

"They're badass," Feig told me at the GQ Men of the Year party in L.A. "It's a very physical movie and they both bring their violence about in different ways."

And wait till you see what happens when McCarthy pulls Sandy B.'s pants down. Hello, Spanx!

"I just let them run and do their thing," Feig said. "Their chemistry was so quick and good right off the bat. They're like best friends now. They really became the best of friends."
